Oct. 21, 2025
The Information Management Centre for Land and Water (IMC) has released the Deyr 2025 Seasonal Forecast, covering rainfall, temperature patterns, and sectoral implications across Somaliland. According to the IGAD Climate Prediction and Application Centre (ICPAC) and IMC analysis: Most regions show a 40–60% likelihood of below-normal rainfall, indicating heightened drought risk in Awdal, Togdheer, Sool, and Saaxil. Temperatures are expected to be above normal, especially in central and eastern districts. Sectoral Impacts & Recommendations: 🌾 Agriculture: Poor germination and reduced yields for maize, sorghum, and cash crops. 🐄 Livestock: Limited pasture and water access increasing livestock stress and mortality. 💧 Water: Declining groundwater and berkad levels across rural areas. 🧒 Health: Rising malnutrition, heat-related illnesses, and hygiene challenges. IMC calls upon government bodies, humanitarian partners, and communities to take early mitigation measures and strengthen climate preparedness. 📍For regular updates on rainfall onset, distribution, and cessation, follow our weekly and monthly climate bulletins.
