According to NOAA-NCEP GFS, the forecast for the coming one week indicates widespread heavy cumulative rainfall across western parts of Somaliland, apart from a few areas in Lasqorey and Berbera where dry conditions will prevail. Very Heavy cumulative rainfall of up to 250.0 mm is expected over the parts of Wajaale, Gabiley and Dilla with a high risk of flash floods over vulnerable areas. Map 1 shows the spatial distribution of the rainfall forecast.

As the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) shifts further south in October, rains are expected to spread both eastwards and southwards from Somaliland. As the NOAA-NCEP GFS, forecasts mostly dry conditions in most regions of Somaliland including Maroodijeex, Awdal and Saaxil during the upcoming week. Light rainfall of up to 30.0 mm is expected over isolated areas in Ceerigaabo district in Sanaag region, and Laas Canood district in Sool region and southern parts of Burco district in Togdheer region. Although the residual effect of ITCZ is still expected to lead to cloudiness, the rest of Somaliland is expected to be dry.

For the upcoming week, the NOAA-NCEP GFS model forecasts mostly dry conditions in most regions of the country including Sanaag, Togdheer, Maroodijeex, Awdal and Saaxil, with light to moderate isolated rainfall in select areas of northern parts such as Ceerigaabo, Northern parts of Hargeisa and some few areas in Awdal region, while these areas are likely to receive cumulative rainfall of up to 30 mm, most of the country will remain dry.
